When does your dog's coat let go?

Many dogs and cats grow a thicker coat for winter and drop it when the days lengthen, then grow it back in autumn. Groomers call it blowing coat. The rough window is spring (around March to May) and fall (around September to November), shifted by your climate. Pets that live indoors with steady heat and light often shed a little all year.
Double-coated breeds blow the hardest: huskies, shepherds, labradors, goldens, corgis. Single coats shed more evenly.
When it isn't the season
Bald patches, sores or scabs, constant licking, tiredness, or heavy shedding outside these windows: that's a vet visit, not a brush.
